Default The Fun Level of Monking

Hey guys id just like to know before i make a monk--
How much fun/how satisfying is it to be a healer on the back lines?
Im just curious because all that Ive played so far are the up front hack and slash types or damage types (Ranger, Sin, and Warrior)

THx for any replies.

Hmm... it's demanding, nerve-wracking, requires constant attention, and you get little or no recognition if you do a good job. Fun? ...YES!!

It's my absolute favorite class to play, and requires the most style and skill (imo) to be good at. In PvE if you don't use henchies you'll be expected to be perfect, assumed to be terrible, and rarely given any recognition for a job well done. It's a dirty job, but it pays off by being the most self-rewarding classes in Gw.

Perfect description.

The great thing about monking is that the person playing it well is the talented one. With nuking, SS-ing and warrior-ing its as simple as spamming 1-8 yet monks need to make split-second decisions as to which skill to use whilst preserving and maintaining energy. A few years back, my therapist said that happiness is a by-product of success - dang he was right

Playing monk gives the best buzz in my opinion.

I reccomend it very much. After trying damn near every class in GW I have finally found my favorite, and its my favorite by an untouchable margin.

Everybody monk loves it when they go into a pve mission and get an invite in the first 5 seconds

I like monking. It is by far the hardest class to play for reasons already stated, but it is the most rewarding.

Yep, basically its a self rewarding profession. Occasionally youll get the "great monking" (starting to hear this more often, and im glad). However you also take the blame occasionally for things out of your control. Its my favorite class because it makes you pay attention, and its pretty straight forward. Hope you enjoy your healing, protection and maybe smiting if your daring

well, just the fact that you get to have the whole team rely on you for a while (whether they listen or not... most of the time they dont) is kinda fun to have on you, however it can get annoying, i just personally like monks so thats what i play on , its all you personal decision

In PvE, the actual monking bit is too easy. Just when the whammos starts leeroying and getting out of range, then shouting for res and after all that blame it on you, THEN it gets irritating. In PvE, monking is more of an emotional test rather than about your personal skill level.

Whereas in PvP, monking actualy requires you to think. Even if you start in Arenas you will quite quickly learn to play when you have a e-denial mesmer, condition ranger and a KD war on your ass
Ofcourse in higher level PvP you will have to learn how to coordiante with your fellow monks, avoid over-healing and handle pressure, spike builds and such.

Enjoy!

Monking is by far the most enjoying character i play.

Expample: yesterday, I needed to cap a skill at Abondon Mouth )or what is it called) so i joined a pug for mission and bonus (well skill was in bonus part). There was no other monk around so we decided that i would go as only monk. After 1 hour and a couple of deaths we finished both mission and bonus and i had been sitting on the edge of my chair for the whole time, that buzz is what this game is all about. I now have that same feeling with PvP which i just started before i reached my 1 year of play ;-)

dude monks r awesome i have to admit..my rangers name is i despise monks....but i should have made it i despise retarded monks but thats besides the point i made a monk and have come to the conclusion...before u go into the uw with b/p grps plz learn to monk by using henchies they r alot weaker so if u can heal them u can heal almost anyone....theres an occasional hero that runs away just to get spiked rofl i love to watch them fall

....that goes for anything...its just my ranger only ever does b/p..that means dont go healing in elite factions missions if ur not 150% confident....but i just say if ur going to monk as a full time job...u must get good and practice dont just throw sum skills on and call it a day...research builds like infinite uses boonb prot(hes in same guild) and it works well....but plz dont run in and use sumthing like smiting/traping...i played against smiting/traping monk they were on kurzik side in aspenwod i was on luxon

To be completely honest, I started out thinking it was great fun. I played with people that appreciated my efforts and even congratulated me, saying I had great focus and did a wonderful job.

That's what happens half the time. The rest of the time, you'll end up in a party that has two assassins that go sky-diving straight into the battle and die in three hits, then everything goes further downhill, and when we're all dead, I'm the only one to blame. Is it my fault they thought they could do with just one healer and a healer henchman? I've had it with people telling me it's my fault. I know I'm a good healer, I do my job, but I can't work miracles. Sure, you get invited to all the fun parties, but it's no fun if people keep spitting on your dress because they make mistakes. Whatever happened to being somewhat self-reliant? When I play my ranger or my necro, no way I'll blame someone else if I go down.

Oh well... grumble grumbe... I'll probably not play healer for much longer. Some people today totally spoiled the game for me. I don't play to get annoyed, I play for fun. If you CAN put up with some crap, I'm sure it's great... but I don't have the patience for it.
